New Leadership for the Continuum of Care for Sarasota and Manatee Counties

At their meeting on August 19th, the Continuum of Care for Sarasota and Manatee Counties elected 15 members to its new Continuum of Care Leadership Council.  The Leadership Council includes member organizations and individuals from both Manatee and Sarasota counties who are dedicated to creating a more efficient and responsive system to assist our homeless population.   The 15 elected members will join ten appointed members to form this new group comprised of leaders from education, homeless services, government, business, law enforcement, homeless advocates, healthcare, the faith based community, veterans’ services, and community funders.  The first meeting of the Leadership Council will be September 28th at 9am in the Glasser Schoenbaum Building J.

In addition, the lead agency for the Continuum of Care, the Suncoast Partnership to End Homelessness has selected Edward DeMarco to be its new Chief Executive Officer.

“After a nationwide search, where we were introduced to many excellent candidates, we have found that the best person to lead us was already a part of our team.  Over the past five months, as Interim Director, Mr. DeMarco has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and has been a vital part of implementing new effective strategies to better assist those who are homeless.” Shawna Machado, Board Chair said.  She indicated that the board considered Mr. DeMarco an experienced executive leader and manager with an outstanding track record of delivering results.

According to Ms. Machado, “Mr. DeMarco has been working with those in the community to develop a Coordinated Entry process called Oneby1 that is designed to better assure homelessness is rare, brief, and non-recurring and has been working with the community on the development and implementation of the new Leadership Council.”

Shawna Machado continued, “These changes, with the newly formed Leadership Council, and selection of a strong CEO, are two important steps as we continue the forward momentum that began with the publication of our roadmap for success, A Cost Effective Homeless Crisis Response System, by Dr. Susan Pourciau.”
